Choices 2010: Collaboration: There's Room at the Table
Difficult economic times often shine a light on divisions and differences, as everyone scrambles to get their piece of the pie.  But where food issues are concerned, collaboration is the best way to ensure that everyone has a seat at the table—and a full plate. The 2010 CHOICES conference explores many viewpoints about food choices and shows how they can work together instead of being mutually exclusive. Participants will have the opportunity to:
  • Learn how to conduct a successful urban garden project
  • Discover food trends that are on the horizon
  • Learn how to cook heart-healthy meals for families and vegetarian recipes
  • Get on the food preservation band wagon
  • Explore strategies for teaching nutrition education through school gardening
CHOICES 2010 is once again being offered at MSU’s Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center and, as always, will include some fabulous meals prepared by the center’s award-winning staff. Whether you’re a farmer, gardener, teacher, nutritionist or just someone who loves food and likes to eat, this conference will satisfy your craving for the latest thinking and best ideas about food.

Wednesday’s program is devoted to training, including sessions on food preservation, preparing healthy foods kids will eat, how to use school gardens to teach nutrition lessons and cultural competency. Thursday’s breakout sessions feature some nationally knows speakers, including Will Allen (CEO of Growing Power), Gerri French (Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator), award-winning Chef Jamie Minton, Dru Montri (Ten Hens Farm) and Mary Jo Asmus (Aspire Collaborative Services president).
